Battery Recycling Efficiency Calculation
Adopted under Article 71(4) of the Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, this Delegated Regulation sets the methodology for calculating and verifying recycling efficiency rates and rates of recovery of materials from waste batteries, and the format of the documentation recyclers submit to competent authorities. Recycling efficiency covers lead-acid, lithium-based, nickel-cadmium and other batteries; material recovery covers cobalt, copper, lead, lithium and nickel. The aim is for recyclers across the EU to demonstrate in a consistent way that they meet the Annex XII targets of the Batteries Regulation. It mainly applies to recyclers; battery producers and producer responsibility organisations use these figures when selecting recycling partners.
