EPR

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registration

Packaging, electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and batteries require producer registration, reporting and fees in every Member State where they are sold. Sellers without an EU entity usually need an authorised representative to register.

01 Who is affected

  • Manufacturers and brand owners shipping directly to several EU Member States
  • Cross-border e-commerce sellers using marketplaces such as Amazon
  • Suppliers asked by EU customers or marketplaces for EPR registration numbers

02 Main obligations

  • Producer registration for packaging, WEEE and batteries in each Member State of sale
  • Appointment of an EU-based authorised representative for producers without an EU entity
  • Periodic reporting of quantities placed on the market and payment of fees
  • Required markings on products, packaging or documents
  • Valid registration numbers provided to marketplaces

Summary only; obligations depend on national transposition and on PPWR, the WEEE Directive and the Battery Regulation.
